Description
(Con't from "Momma as a Child.")
You can see momma here with her tailor-made clothes she was so proud of.
She walked through the officer's club where my father was a military policeman and caught his eye. He told his friend, "that's the woman for me."
She talked about how she walked through the room with her tailor-made clothing and head held high, her nose in the air, shaking her long blond hair. Afterall, the young German women were told that the colored American solders had tails, a story they were told to discourage interaction.
They later wanted to marry, and my father's commanding officer said, "NO WAY!"

🌼 Alga - Given the racial ignorance and rejections of that time in Germany, the USA, and just about everywhere else too - your parents were and are magnificent - and have to be admired - for having defied all of those hurtful prejudices ! 👍

What courage and commitment as 1949 was not the same as 2015--bless those with true hearts and the courage to lead the way for future generations. Thanks for the image as it illustrates what America is supposed to be--and thanks to the soldier for his service as it required a much higher level of courage than most.

I shared your kind words with my father and they brought a smile to his face. To make others smile is one of the best gifts we can give. Thank you Otis.

What a bitter-sweet story about your mom and dad. This especially interested me because I'm mostly German......your mother was beautiful and definitely looked German. She's beautiful----he's handsome. Maybe someday you'll post a photo of yourself, I hope. :)

:)) Thank you both, I have always loved this picture and remember my mother always responded, "I was so sick that day." Well, she looked great! Wish you were the judges in the local juried art show :)

There are no words to describe how much I love this photograph and the emotional reaction it gives to me. Another vote.

I applaud both your parents love for each other, a love that defied bigotry and hatred . It proves my point - When you share love you defeat hate.
